SIKESTON - A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hipes at the Sikeston General Hospital.


SIKESTON - Virginia Military Institute has notified Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bowman that their son, Lee Austin, who is a member of the Army's Enlisted Reserve, probably will go on active duty with other students there about Jan. 27.

SIKESTON - The Silver Beaver, Scouting's highest award to a volunteer worker, was presented to George E. Hale Jr. at the second annual District appreciation banquet Thursday night. Special awards made included: Lionel Verbel of Vanduser and H.F. Clare of Sikeston, Scouter's Training Awards; Clifford Morris, Sikeston, Scouter's Key; and Mrs. Matt Williams of Sikeston, Den Mother's Award. Also receiving awards but not present were John Bollinger and William R. Miller of Benton, Scouter's Keys and Murrie L. Farris of Sikeston, Training Award.

NEW MADRID - The New Madrid County R-1 School District is sponsoring a Financial Aid Information Night for students and parents. The program will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Central High School - East Campus.
