SIKESTON - The temperature range in midweek was 55 to 23 degrees above zero.

SIKESTON - Mrs. Bill Hopkins assumed new duties this week as a teller in the Bank of Sikeston.

SIKESTON - Met with stubborn opposition from farm owners north of town, the city council, in a special session Wednesday afternoon, revised its plans for annexation of additional area by reducing the area from six square miles to about 1,109 acres.

SIKESTON - A capacity crowd of 200 persons participated in ordination services for three new deacons at Murray Lane Baptist Church on Jan. 6. Ordained were Tom Watson, Jack Feaster and Flaire Ferrell. In a Jan. 9 business meeting, the church voted to expand its present building by an additional 1,600 square feet.

SIKESTON - An eight-member Special Select Committee on Dioxin and Hazardous Waste was set up by Senate President Pro Tem John Scott on Monday to examine the contamination and its effects on the communities involved. Sen. John Dennis (D-Benton), who was named chairman of the committee, said some of the panel's members would travel to the sites contaminated by the poisonous chemical to get a first hand look at the problems and to talk with residents of the areas.

MINER - Twenty-one companies announced they will open in May at the new Sikeston Factory Outlet Stores.

SIKESTON - Local residents discovered looks can be deceiving this morning. Although streets appeared wet, motorists found them ice-covered and dangerous.
