SIKESTON - Lieutenant James A. Elder, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., is a new officer at the Army Air Force's Training Detachment located at Harvey Parks Airport here.

PARMA - Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Underwood Sr. are parents of their fourth son, Elmer Underwood Jr., born Jan. 21.

CHARLESTON - Pupils from Charleston High School and St. Henry High School have formed a "Youth Club for Hearnes" to support Secretary of State Warren E. Hearnes in his bid for the gubernatorial nomination.

MOREHOUSE - Carl Launius was installed as president of the Morehouse Kiwanis Club by Lieutenant Governor G.E. Simmons. Melvin Clark is vice president and Charles Rauch, secretary.

BENTON - The Scott County Historical Society elected its 1983 officers Monday at the courthouse. They are: Historian Edson Shrum; Vice President Joy Whitten; President Eugene Diebold; Treasurer Mary Ann Phillips; Secretary Mike Ballou; and board members Dallas Grubbs, Jan Wilson and Don McArthur.

EAST PRAIRIE - The Mississippi County Industrial Development Authority has agreed to postpone seeking placement of a 1/8-cent sales tax proposal on the April ballot.

MOREHOUSE - Jim and Daniele Sims are the parents of their first child, a son, born at 1:33 p.m. Jan. 15, 1993, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. On arrival, Deven Ray Sims weighed 5 pounds, 3 ounces and was 18 1/2-inches long.
