SCOTT CITY - George D. Spence, 88, died Oct. 13, 2007, at his residence in Scott City.
Born April 28, 1919, at Rutherford, Tenn., to the late George W. and Effie Glissom Spence, he was a mechanic for Ford Groves, retiring in 1981. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau and of the Unity Baptist Church at Benton.
On Aug. 21, 1944, at Wellingborough, England, he married Margaret M. Godfrey, who survives.
Also surviving are: one son, Danny M. Spence of Bertrand; one daughter, Peggy Laminack of Essex; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Dale Huff will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Dennis Lowe.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Cape Girardeau with graveside military honors.
