SIKESTON - Pvt. William Lufcy, who was working for the Scott County Milling Co. here when he enlisted in the Marines, has been wounded in action while fighting the enemy.
SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Stewart of Sikeston are the parents of a baby boy born at Missouri Delta Community Hospital.

SIKESTON - Officials of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. conducted a press conference Thursday in connection with the rate increase which the business requested Wednesday from the Missouri Public Service Commission.
CHARLESTON - Scott Central and Perryville notched first-round victories in the Charleston Girls Invitational Monday. Scott Central raced to a 50-4 halftime lead against Caruthersville and coasted home, 97-22. Perryville ran up a 43-26 lead after three quarters, then held off Cape Central in a wild fourth quarter, en route to a 66-51 victory.
