Born May 29, 1930, in Lepanto, Ark., son of the late John S. and Evelyn Miller Nolen Sr., he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from Western Union and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. For many years, he was an advocate for the disabled and served as a member of the Jackson County Board of Services for the Developmentally Disabled.
His wife, Helen Marie Nolen, survives of the home.
Other survivors include: three daughters and one son-in-law, Anne E. Nolen of St. Louis, Suzanne R. Nolen of Kansas City and Helarie "Holly" and Jeffrey Hollenbeck of Omaha, Neb.; four brothers, William Nolen and Eugene Nolen of Clermont, Fla., John Nolen Jr. of Waterloo, S.C., and David Nolen of New Madrid; three sisters, Gertrude Dubois and Margaret Welch of New Madrid and Joyce Nettles of Macomb, Mich.; and five grandchildren, Romare Haller, Ryder Haller, Mara Haller, Kathryn Hollenbeck and Nathan Hollenbeck.
Services were conducted Feb. 3 at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home in Blue Springs.
