New CMT course

POPLAR BLUFF -- Certified Nurse Assistants can upgrade to become Certified Medication Technicians through a course being offered at Three Rivers Community College starting Jan. 20.

The 60-hour, 15-week course, approved by the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services, is offered through TRCC's Office of Allied Health and the college's Division of Extended Learning. Classes will be held Mondays, from 5 to 9 p.m., Jan. 20 through April 28 in Room B213 on the second floor of the Rutland Memorial Library building on campus.

The course is designed to prepare Certified Nurse Assistants for employment as Certified Medication Technicians in long-term care facilities.

Prerequisites for the course include a high school diploma or GED, a current Missouri CNA certificate with at least six months of employment as a CNA and a letter of recommendation from the administrator or director of nursing at the employing facility. Also required is a minimum score on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), which covers vocabulary, comprehension, math computation, and math concepts and applications. The test is given the first night of class.

After successful completion of the TRCC course, students are eligible to take the state examination qualifying them as Certified Medication Technicians.

Enrollment will be limited to 15 students. Cost of the course is $279 for those living in the TRCC district and $399 for out-of-district residents, payable at the time of registration.

SIKESTON - Daliaka Fuller recently returned to State Board and received her instructors license in cosmetology.

A 1998 graduate of Sikeston High School, she attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, where she majored in computer science. In 2000, Fuller attended the Sikeston Beauty School and received her cosmetology license from the State Board in 2001. She continued her education as an instructor at Trendsetters in Sikeston.

She is the daughter of David and Betty Fuller Jr. of Sikeston.

POPLAR BLUFF - Do-it-yourselfers will soon have a new place to shop for supplies. Home Depot finalized a purchase recently of nearly 18 acres of land, located on Westwood Boulevard., just south of Ryan's.

Overseeing the construction project will be Key Construction, a group based in Wichita, Kan., who has done work in the Cape Girardeau area.

Construction of the 121,000-square-feet building began immediately. It is scheduled for completion in April.
