Someone called in about a Sikeston nursing home not having Halloween for kids this year. Do they have to have Halloween? You said your kids love going out to the nursing home on Halloween and love visiting with the residents there. Do you ever think about just taking your kids out to visit the elderly? Some of the Girl Scouts or other organizations could go out and visit the residents. Why should they give out candy and things to try to lure them out there? Come on, think. You're going to be that way one of these days.

To the person talking about people burning limbs, corn stalks, fence rows, bean stubble, I kind of go along with you there. I was standing outside a restaurant, smoking a cigarette the other day. A lady came out and said, "I can't stand this smoke. There ought to be a law where they can't smoke within 500 feet of a public place." Well, I went by her house the next day. All around her house was a corn field. They were burning corn stubble off of it. Her car was sitting in front of her house, so I'm sure she was home. I wonder how she was breathing and could take all that smoke coming into her house. Why complain about a cigarette when you burn all around your house? If you can do this, why should a little cigarette bother you? I can understand it if there's a crowd of people around, all smoking. Don't make a stupid remark about a man smoking a cigarette.

Our country has been threatened by terrorism. Our country is in danger and it's going to cost our country billions and billions of dollars for homeland security. I know it will cost a lot of money if we have to go over to Iraq, but I believe the security of our country is the most important thing to the American people. But I don't believe our country has the funds to do all this. What I'm getting at is this. There are people out there who need welfare. But we're spending so much money for welfare programs today that the United States of America hasn't got the money to support our safety. Homeland security is a very important thing at the time. Those who need welfare should get it. Those who don't, stop their checks and get them off welfare. I wish our President and the leaders of our country the best in protecting our country.

I'm not complaining that Jim Talent got in, but I thought it was a very cheap shot for his people to put papers on people's cars while they were in church. His people should have been in church, too. What are the Republicans going to do with the 103,000 votes they found in Florida that haven't been counted? Are they going to count them or are they going to just forget about them like they did at the last presidential election?

Now the truth comes out about Slick Willie, who wears the pants in the family. Al's going to go ahead and scratch Slick Willie's back and put him in as a presidential running mate, just to edge it over the 50-50 vote that was in the last presidential election. Who wants a President Gore with all the gore that we're fixing to face anyway? We need someone who is military-minded, such as Bush. We don't want to see your politics. We can see what you're planning with Dole anyway because he was politicking for you, by the way. So you're going to scratch his back and give his wife a job to give her power and play on women's emotions. We're not that stupid. Get a life.

Could you tell me the purpose of someone having their picture on a food stamp card when the stores never check to see who's buying the food? They need to be checked just like a person's ID is checked when they go to buy cigarettes or alcohol. This is getting to be something else!

Overkill

Mike, you are a pretty smart guy. But tell me how come we have to tell all of our plans on TV. We talk too much and do too little in this country. I have never in my life seen so many authors and professors and people giving advice. Just how smart are we? It makes you sick to watch them.
