Sikeston man killed

Wednesday, November 20, 2002

FORT MYERS, Fla. - A Sikeston, Mo., man was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Florida over the weekend.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jesus Carrillo "Jesse" Guardado, 24, and a bus driven by Francois Toussaint, 41, of Naples, were both traveling west on County Road 846 in the left turn lane Saturday. The report said the bus was stopped at the flashing red left turn arrow, waiting on traffic. For unknown reasons, Guardado failed to stop. As Guardado applied his brakes, his vehicle began to turn counter-clockwise. The front of his vehicle collided with the right rear of the bus and continued up under the rear of the bus.

The report stated that the bus was then forced forward and the rear rotated counter-clockwise. When the bus came to rest facing west-southwest in front of a painted stop bar, the Guardado vehicle came to rest facing south behind the bus.

Guardado was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital where he died at 12:14 p.m.
