SIKESTON - Mrs. Edith Swinney was given a surprise dinner by a group of friends on Oct. 21 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Buel Sizemore in honor of her birthday.

BLODGETT - Pauline Stanfill of Benton was a guest of Mrs. E.J. Neinstedt Monday evening at dinner.

SIKESTON - Girl Scouts from this area have been chosen as applicants to represent the Cotton Boll Council in the final regional selections for 1964 national and international events. Patricia Wood of Sikeston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wood, and Mary Ann Cook of Charleston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Cook, will face regional competition for separate camps in Michigan and Tennessee.

POPLAR BLUFF - A city Light and Water-Sewer Department cashier has been charged with felony stealing after she allegedly embezzled money from the department and altered records to hide the theft.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Fire Protection District recently purchased a new water tanker for the district. The district is currently under contract with the City of Sikeston with the tanker being manned by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Bob Patterson, Sam Hunter and Capt. Drew Juden of the Sikeston DPS took a look at the new vehicle.

BENTON - One could hear a pin drop at the Scott County Courthouse Tuesday evening as eager eyes watched the election results being calculated. The fate of Southeast Regional Port Authority's riverboat gaming issue was announced: 4,784 residents were opposed; 4,039 in favor.
