SIKESTON - Newton Carroll, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Carroll of Sikeston, will leave Saturday for Pine Bluff, Ark., to enter training with the St. Louis Browns minor league baseball team.

SIKESTON - Shirley Jo Louis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Louis, is celebrating her 12th birthday this evening with a theater party to be followed with refreshments in the Palace Cafe dining room.

NEW MADRID - A petition filed on behalf of the Sikeston R-6 school board requesting it be permitted to intervene in the suit challenging the annexation of the Morehouse C-12 school district to the R-6 district was overruled in circuit court by Judge William L. Ragland.

SIKESTON - Boy Scouts opened a ticket sales drive for the Okeechobee District Exposition Saturday when they presented a complementary ticket to City Manager Raymert Miller.

SIKESTON - An extension to a $42,849 federal grant has been approved for the Bootheel Coalition for the Homeless, according to Steve Triplett, chairman of the effort. He said the extension for the grant funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development was received this morning. The city of Sikeston applied for the funding for the effort.

EAST PRAIRIE - The 1988-89 school calendar and two fund-raising projects were approved March 14 by the East Prairie R-1 Board of Education.

SIKESTON - The Missouri Small Business Development Center presented MORAD Manufacturing in Sikeston with a 1997 Excellence in Business Award. Owners of MORAD are Wayne Burch and Jacque Burch.


SIKESTON - Grant Weathers Jr., D.D.S., a local dentist, was one of 34 judges who made the selections at this year's Sikeston Public Schools Science Fair.
