Resolution passed by BMU opposing PILOT

Tuesday, January 21, 2003

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities adopted a resolution opposing the proposed Payment In Lieu Of Taxes.

The board unanimously came to their decision during a special meeting Monday to go on record as being in opposition to the referendum which would amend the Home Rule Charter and establish the PILOT.

The PILOT, if approved by Sikeston voters Feb. 4, would divert 3 percent of the BMU's electric system gross annual revenues to the city general revenue fund.

An in-depth article explaining the BMU's position in detail will be published before the election.
