Accident victim is crushed by vehicle

CARUTHERSVILLE -- A one-vehicle accident resulted in fatal injuries for a Caruthersville resident early Saturday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 12:35 a.m., Larry W. Christy, 48, was driving south on Pemiscot County Route D, five miles south of Caruthersville, when the accident occurred. Reports said Christy's vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck a culvert. The driver was ejected through the t-top of the vehicle, which overturned and partially landed on Christy.

He was transported by ambulance to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti and was later transferred to the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, Tenn., where he was pronounced dead at 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
