DEXTER - Lucille Elizabeth Sheley, 87, formerly of Jefferson City, died Jan. 21, 2003, at the Cypress Point Health Center.
Born Nov. 30, 1915, in Jefferson City, daughter of the late A.F. "Spot" and Mary Margaret Rafe Renn, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter and former member of Immaculate Conception Church in Jefferson City. A member of the Daughters of Isabella Glennon Circle, she was a charter member and past president of Karim Khan Grotto Auxiliary, St. Ann's Sodality of Immaculate Conception Church and the Federated Democratic Women's Club. She was a past president of the Cole County Women's Jefferson Democratic Club and the Missouri Federated Democratic Women's Club and past chairman of the Cole County Democratic Committee and the 8th District Central Committee.
A former liaison officer for district, state and regional offices in Jefferson City, Kansas City and Chicago, Ill., she had been a ration and loan officer for the Union State Bank in Clinton and had been employed by the state of Missouri by the state treasurer, secretary of state, state Senate clerk's office and was executive secretary for the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. Sheley was appointed circuit clerk of the Circuit Court of Cole County where she served for 22 years and had been elected twice. After leaving county employment, she was appointed personnel officer for the Department of Safety of Missouri before retiring in 1981.
On Feb. 15, 1936, in Jefferson City, she married W.C. "Woody" Sheley who preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1988.
She is survived by one son, the Rev. John William Sheley of Dexter; and one sister, Josephine H. Duncan of Columbia.
Her brother, Charles F. "Bud" Renn, also preceded her in death.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Buescher Funeral Home in Jefferson City, where a rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Jefferson City with the Rev. John William Sheley and the Rev. Peter Ullrich officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum in Jefferson City.
