DEXTER -- Charles Fate Cantrell, 61, died Dec. 17, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Nov. 30, 1941, in New Madrid County, son of the late James Newt and Mattie Semino Cantrell, he had lived in Arkansas before moving to Dexter in 1988 and had worked as a farm laborer for Bush's Canning in Blytheville, Ark.
On March 3, 1978, at Dexter, he married Melba Carpenter who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: six sons, James Dale Cantrell of Jonesboro, Ark., William Dewayne Cantrell of Leachville, Ark., Bobby Newt Cantrell of Malden, Charles Edward Cantrell of Advance and Jasper Cantrell and Charles Brandon Cantrell of Dexter; five daughters, Mary Conner of Sikeston, Christine Cantrell of Dexter, Marsha Conner of Clarkton and Brittany Santana Cantrell and Brooke Ann Cantrell of Dexter; one brother, Ralph Cantrell of Apopka, Fla.; two sisters, Bonnie Stitz of Dexter and Cathy Eubanks of Eureka; and 26 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Danny Cantrell; one daughter, Doris Gibbs; four brothers, Leamon Cantrell, Junior Cantrell, Leon Cantrell and Gene Cantrell; and three sisters, Norma Barnett, Collean Burchett and Barbara Brant.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Jerry Metcalf of Puxico will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield.
