ORAN - Virginia Ann Hodges, 66, died Dec. 18, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by her family and friends.
Born Oct. 3, 1936, in Fornfelt-Ansell, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Rose Mae Wright Abernathy. For 13 years she was employed by Thorngate Ltd. in Chaffee and in 1998 she retired as a cook from the Ingram Barge Line. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Her passions included cooking, gardening and her dog, Charlie. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are three daughters and one son, Carla Lorentz of Houston, Texas, Brenda Cook of Oran, Don Abernathy of Apple Valley, Calif., and Dodie Hodges of Cape Girardeau. She is also survived by three brothers, Bill Abernathy of Chester, Ill., Chuck Abernathy of Grand Tower, Ill., and Joe Abernathy of McClure, Ill.; one sister, Doris Christy of Scott City; and seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her brother, Bob Abernathy of Cape Girardeau, preceded her in death.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran, where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Ed Carter will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery at Commerce.
