SIKESTON -- As business at Video One grew and grew, owner Angela Anderson knew just what to do. She opened Video Two.

Tucked in Eakins Plaza at 2107 E. Malone Ave. (just behind Wallpaper for Less and across from Judy's Buy Rite), the store opened May 15.

Anderson said she chose the location to accommodate her customers on the east side of Sikeston. "We wanted to offer this side of town video and tanning," she said.

After some renovation to their portion of the building, Anderson ordered all the latest video releases along with games to fill the racks lining all four walls.

Video Two offers new releases at $3 for a night while older movies can be rented for $1 for five nights. Those renting movies at Video Two must have valid identification and a current phone number, however, Anderson emphasized, there is no membership fee.

"We do offer to reserve movies for customers," said employee Jayna Gilmore. "If a customer calls and lets us know what movie they want and what day, we will hold it for them."

And to make it easier on those who might forget about a rental and are late in returning it, Video Two's staff will continue to let customers rent movies as long as they pay toward their outstanding late fee at the time of renting a new movie.

But Video Two isn't just movies as their tanning business is also popular, Gilmore and Anderson agreed.

With Video Two, they not only sought to make tanning convenient but they also sought to make it even quicker. Anderson installed a Sunstar 432 tanning and bronzing bed, which is used for a maximum of 12-minutes during sessions.

"I had one customer who was really excited to learn we were getting a bronzing bed. She had been driving to Cape just to tan," said Anderson. She said the advantage of the bronzing bed is that clients "tan from the inside out. Customers tan more evenly and stay tan longer."

"We strive to accommodate any type of tanner from beginners to advanced tanners," said Gilmore. This might include advice on how to begin the tanning process, suggestions on products to intensify a tan or even staying open a little later so a regular customer can get in their 12-minute tanning session.

Currently Video Two offers unlimited tanning for $20 a month. Gilmore pointed out this is a real bargain at less than a dollar a day. "No one gives a better tan at that price," she said.

And to make it an even better deal, those who pay for two months of tanning receive the third month free, Gilmore added.

Customers can also choose from an array of tanning products. Video Two carries tanning lotions and after-tanning lotions by Hemps, Swedish Beauty, Designer Skin and Australian Gold. The store will also special order products, requiring customers only to pay half down then the other half when the order arrives.

Customer service, whether with the video rentals or the tanning, is key to their operation, Anderson and Gilmore agreed.

"We are friendly. We love people," said Anderson about the family-owned and operated business.

A grand opening for the business is being planned for July. Although the exact date isn't set, Anderson promised it will include hotdogs, sodas, business specials and even prizes.

Video Two is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday. The store is closed on Sunday.
