Eighth graders topple NMCC

Friday, December 13, 2002

NEW MADRID - The Sikeston eighth grade basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 61-21 victory against New Madrid County Central.

Sikeston's B team lost its first game of the year, falling 31-26 to NMCC's B team.

Sikeston led 16-3 after one quarter and led 27-13 at the half. The Bulldogs dominated the second half, out-scoring the Eagles 34-8.

Sikeston was led by Julian Spencer's 16 points. Blake Taylor had 13 and Joe Lincoln added 11 points.

"Everybody got to play in the A game," said Sikeston coach Kevin Self.

"We played really well as a team. We turned it over some in the first half but we played really well in the second half, especially the third quarter."

In the B game, Sikeston was led by Cameron Wiggins' eight points.

"The kids played hard in the B game but we just couldn't take care of the basketball," said Self. "But it was good for them to get some playing time."

Sikeston's eighth grade will play on Monday at Poplar Bluff starting at 6 p.m.
