Carbondale wrestlers take down Sikeston, 40-29

CARBONDALE -- Sikeston's wrestling team was defeated by Carbondale on Wednesday, 40-29, dropping the Bulldogs' season record to 1-2 in dual meets.

"We didn't wrestle up to our potential tonight," said Sikeston coach Chris Hodgkiss. "Hopefully we can use this to motivate us for the next couple of weeks going into the Christmas break."

The meet started in the 125 division, where Adam Miller pinned Carbondale's Matt Reid in 1:22. At 130, Cody Ryan was pinned by Carbondale's Brad McDaniel in 3:25.

At 135, Kyle Weeks won by a score of 14-10 over Carbondale's Ryan Newsome. At 140, Tony Reynolds lost by a score of 26-12 to Carbondale's Will Attig.

In the 145 class, Cody Weeks won by a score of 13-3 over Carbondale's Chris Palmer. At 152, Lance Berry won by a pin in a time of 1:48 over Carbondale's Luke Webber.

At 160, Cullen Looney lost by pin in a time of 46 seconds to Carbondale's David Myers. At 171, Scotty Keenan won by a score of 17-4 over Carbondale's Cory Rolling.

At 189, Ken Masegian lost by pin in 3:42 to Carbondale's Matt Peterman. At 215, Andy Croxford lost by pin in 1:26 to Carbondale's Kristian Vaulou.

In the heavyweight class, Joe Johnson pinned Carbondale's Joey Krummrich in a minute.

At 112, Jeremy Freeman was pinned by Carbondale's Travis Drone in 5:26. In the 119 weight class, Shawn Cooper lost by pin to Carbondale's Darrel Stegue in a time of 5:34.

"We had some really good matches," said Hodgkiss. "Cody Weeks and Scotty Keenan probably wrestled their best matches of the year."

Sikeston will be back in action on Saturday, participating in the Dexter Tournament. The event starts at 11 a.m.

Sikeston lost Wednesday's junior varsity match 48-23.

Sikeston winners were Nick Nielsen (119), Travis Cummins (135), Malcolm Williams (171) and Kyle Rodgers (215).
