SIKESTON - A daughter was born Sunday to Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Ward at the Sikeston General Hospital.

SIKESTON - John Donoho, local manager of Southwestern Bell, said that $93,000 was spent in 1962 on telephone service expansion and improvements here. The number of telephones at the end of December number 7,200 and it was estimated that 40,000 local and 2,300 long distance calls were handled daily during the year.


MOREHOUSE - Ed Orr was installed as worshipful master of Morehouse Lodge No. 684.

DEXTER - The man and woman of the year will be named during the Dexter Chamber of Commerce annual banquet meeting. Chamber officers for 1983 will be installed and Wendell Kimbrough of Pocahontas, Ark., will be guest speaker.


PORTAGEVILLE - Six positions will be decided in the April 5 city election, including the job as mayor.

SIKESTON - Christy Baker-Neel today was appointed Scott County prosecuting attorney, according to an announcement from Gov. John Ashcroft's office.


SIKESTON - Sikeston will carry the momentum of two post-holiday performances into Saturday's Jackson tournament. The Bulldogs turned in a strong finish in last week's Poplar Bluff tournament, then demolished Cape Central 48-17 on Thursday.
