PATTON - Rufus Clay Martin, 82, died Dec. 31, 2002, at his home in Patton.

Born Sept. 26, 1920, to the late Henry and Callie Ashlock Martin, he had spent most of his life in the Avert community in Stoddard County. A retired farmer and minister with the Church of God, he was also the former owner of Martin Hill Retirement Center near Avert.

On March 20, 1992, he married Virginia Cossel, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are: two sons, Gary Martin and Darrell Martin of Essex; one daughter, Scarlett "Scottie" Justice of Conroe, Texas; three brothers, Bill Martin of Sikeston, Uton Martin of Springfield and Aaron Martin of Aquilla; one sister, Pauline Lyons of Sikeston; and 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday.

Burial will follow in the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield.
