Lorene Compas

EAST PRAIRIE -- Lorene I. Compas, 93, died at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 4, 2003, at the East Prairie Nursing Center.

Born Aug. 25, 1909, in Rover, Ark., daughter of the late James Thomas and Dessie England Hunt, she lived in East Prairie most of her life, where she was a member of the First Church of God.

Her first husband, Roy Williams, preceded her in death. On May 8, 1972, she married Edward Compas who died on Dec. 18, 1991.

Also preceding her in death were one son, Tommy Joe Williams; one daughter, Jewel Evelyn Smith; three stepsons, one granddaughter, three sisters and one brother.

Surviving are her three stepdaughters-in-law, Wilma Compas and Laura Holt of Benton an Aline Compas of Kelso; one sister, Ruby Nell McGee of Lindsey, Calif.; three grandchildren, 14 stepgrandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home with Rob Kespelher and Larry Smith officiating.

Burial followed in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.

Pallbearers were: Teddy Bennett, Gary Davis, Bob Hanor, Frank Hanor, Doug Hutcheson and Ronnie Wallace.
