DYERSBURG, Tenn. - Richard Spencer Fulkerson, 97, formerly of Dexter, Mo., died Dec. 12, 2002, at the Methodist Hospital in Dyersburg.
Born Jan. 29, 1905, at Anniston, son of the late William and Mattie Gee Fulkerson, he was a painter for the St. Louis (Mo.) Car Company for 44 years before retiring and was of the Methodist belief.
In 1925, at Marion, Ill., he married Kaythryn McGowan who preceded him in death.
Survivors include: five sons, Hubert Fulkerson of Kokomo, Ind., Herbert Fulkerson of Phillip, W.Va., Richard Fulkerson Jr. of Camden, Del., Robert Fulkerson of Lodi, Wis., and Paul Fulkerson of Dyersburg; one daughter, Dixie Lee Fletcher of Carterville, Ill.; 28 grandchildren, including Sandra Fulkerson Phillips and Ronnie Fulkerson, whom he raised; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Fulkerson, Roy Fulkerson and William Fulkerson; and four sisters, Francis Stilley, Isabell Akins, Bertha Smith and Jewell Farell.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Burial will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
