SIKESTON - Gene Saalwachter, husband of the former Virginia Gwaltney of Sikeston, received a Marine presidential unit citation Sunday for his part in actions on the Guadalcanal. Saalwachter was honorably discharged from the Army and is employed in Sikeston at Pepsi -Cola Co.

SIKESTON - The Rotary Club will entertain their Anns tonight with a Christmas party at the Rustic Rock, when they have a 30-minute musical program furnished by the Senior High Concert Choir. The choir with its 90 members will give seven selections under the direction of Gordon Beaver. Program chairman is Alex Klein.

SIKESTON - Kevin J. Glaser of Sikeston was honored Friday night by the Sikeston Elks Lodge as Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Glaser, 30, has been a highway patrol trooper for two years. He was specifically honored for his actions on June 24 when he investigated a drowning in a farm pond on Route HH. "This officer dived into the pond in full uniform without hesitation and disregard for his own personal safety in an attempt to locate the drowning victim," said Leroy Parmenter, banquet chairman.

CHARLESTON - Parents As Teachers and Practical Parenting will have a group meeting beginning at 7 p.m. Monday at Hearnes Elementary. Special guest will be Jeannie Williams.


SIKESTON - The American Cancer Society's "Love Lights a Tree" Christmas tree, is on display at Rotary Park. For a $25 donation, participants can place an ornament on the tree in memory of or in honor of a loved one. Sharon Sever is chairman of this year's fund-raising event.
