SIKESTON - A short circuit in the air conditioning unit at the Joseph Matthews home, 319 N. Kingshighway, caused smoke damage throughout the second floor and burned out the cooling apparatus.

SIKESTON - Manager Roy Bone of the Chamber of Commerce has been notified by Sen. Stuart Symington that he has been placed on the witness list to present testimony pertaining to the proposed Ozark Rivers Monument National Park.


SIKESTON - Gay Foster is one of 19 finalists in the Miss Missouri Pageant to be held July 18-20 in St. Joseph.

WARRENSBURG - Two youths from Sikeston and one from New Madrid have won election to offices at the 43rd Annual American Legion Boys State of Missouri. Tim Thomure and David Bailey of Sikeston were elected to posts as was Charles Brown.

FORT SMITH, Ark. - Army Sgt. Patrick W. Powell, a member of the 6th Infantry Division (Light), has deployed to Fort Chaffee for a training exercise. Powell, the son of Leon D. and Edna F. Powell of Sikeston, is a 1984 graduate of Sikeston High School.


SIKESTON - All 11 players had hits for SEMO Dental as all but two did the same for the victorious AmeriFirst. R. Lindsey, P. Sumner and T. Miller each had three hits for the winners as Z. Korenak, G. Potashnick and J. Tibbs had two apiece. For SEMO Dental, D. Clayton, K. Duncan, S. Carraway, J. Showmaker and B. Eldridge each had two. The final score was AmeriFirst, 10, and SEMO Dental, 6.
