CAPE GIRARDEAU - Wanda Holley, 8-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.E. Holley, received dozens of Valentines from her class at May Green School. The girl has been in St. Francis Hospital since Nov. 28 for treatment of burns she suffered in a fire in her home.
BLOOMFIELD - Geraldine Jones, 19, is in the Stoddard County Jail after a family argument resulted in the death of Milt Avery, 43. Avery was shot between the eyes with a .25 caliber pistol.
PORTAGEVILLE - Public hearings that will have an impact on farming and agribusiness will be held March 2. A Delta Research Center official said the hearings could affect which programs or kept or dropped.
JACKSON - The Sikeston High School Distributive Education Clubs of America chapter received 23 awards at the district meeting.
SIKESTON - The 12th annual Kenny Rogers Cerebral Palsy Telethon concluded Sunday after more than $132,000 was raised. The money will go to support the CP Center and the services it offers to clients around the Bootheel.
PARMA - The Parma City Council discussed the application for a 1992 Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $500,000 at a recent meeting. The grant would go toward housing rehabilitation and storm sewer drainage improvements. If approved, the city will begin on this project in the fall of 1992.
SIKESTON - The Sikeston Little Theater held tryouts for the second production of their 1991-92 season, "Squabbles" at the Sikeston Kingsway Mall.
