SIKESTON - Despite a fire Wednesday at the Sikeston Power Plant, no power shortages are expected.
At 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety was alerted to a fire at the power plant, 1551 W. Wakefield Road. Officers found a piece of equipment had malfunctioned causing hydraulic oil to spill onto hot pipes resulting in small spot fires.
A carbon-dioxide extinguisher was used to extinguish the fires until the equipment could be cooled. The equipment was restored with minimal damage to the plant, according to officials.
Officials explained a redundancy in the city's power system kept the city with power.
