SHS soccer falls
FARMINGTON - The Sikeston girls soccer team lost 8-0 to Farmington on Monday.
Sikeston (0-3) trailed 4-0 at the half, but they managed to play the entire game for the first time this season. They were defeated 10-0 in the first half in their first two games.
Sikeston was out-shot 20-10. Lady Bulldog goalkeeper Thea Williamson had 12 saves.
Amanda Gordon had a hat trick for the Lady Knights.
"I thought we played pretty good," said Sikeston head coach Derrick Long. "It's the first game we've made it through the whole game. A lot more of the girls got some playing time. We're starting to play a few more freshmen on the varsity which is good. The more minutes they get the better it will be in the long run."
Sikeston's junior varsity lost 3-2 to Farmington, but they were able to score their first goals of the season.
Sikeston out-shot Farmington 24-12.
Caroline McClung scored an unassisted goal on a corner kick. Keshia Presley scored on an assist from Elizabeth Killion.
"I know it's jayvee, but scoring a couple goals is the first roadblock we've gotten through, these girls were dying to score," said Long. "Now we're looking to find a way to win. Presley and Killion finally are starting to see how to score and how to make passes for the scoring opportunity. I felt like we dominated the jayvee game. We doubled them in shots, but we're having a hard time scoring. We're hitting our shots right at the keeper instead of the corner."
Sikeston's junior varsity is now 0-6.
The varsity team will host Cape Central on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
