SIKESTON - General Manager Roy Bone of the Sikeston Chamber of Commerce has been notified that he was elected as the Missouri director on the Board of Directors of the Southern Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.


PORTAGEVILLE - A contract was awarded for construction of an office building at the Delta Center to Ryan Construction Co. of Sikeston.

SIKESTON - Some Prize Crossword Puzzle enthusiasts seem to be over-zealous in the attempt to win the cash prize. Since the Prize Crossword began appearing in Sunday's Daily Standard, thefts from The Standard's newspaper racks on Sunday have increased dramatically. Last Sunday, about 40 percent of the newspapers in the racks were stolen.


BENTON - Voters from throughout the four-county area will be casting ballots Tuesday for positions on boards of education. Puxico School district voters will decide a tax levy change.

SIKESTON - With passage of a resolution, the city council cleared the way for the creation of a Neighborhood Improvement District, thought to be the second of its kind in Missouri.


NEW MADRID - The Mississippi River levee is crumbling away at New Madrid. "I think we are going to have something done expeditiously," said City Councilman Larry Rost. The levee was constructed in 1919-20 by pumping soil, sand and mud out of the river to the city river front.
