Friday, April 19, 2002

SIKESTON -- Sikeston's golf team hosted a triangular match with Malden and Caruthersville on Thursday.

The Bulldogs took first place in the event with 164 points, followed by Malden with 175 and Caruthersville with 210.

"Today we started preparing for districts," said Sikeston coach Rick Oetting. "The weather has brought out the fairways and greens so we can play the ball down. That's the way it will be at districts, and that's the way to play from now on."

Brandon DeWitt and Matt Bain stepped up and led the Bulldogs, firing a 38 and 39 respectively. Also posting varsity scores were Matt Hon at 44 and Tanner Fritz and 43.

Malden was led by McCloud at 41, Kennedy at 44, Blake at 43 and Rucker at 47. Caruthersville scorers were Barnett at 42, Guest at 50, Bell at 54 and Thrasher at 55.

Sikeston also won the junior varsity match with 188 points. Sikeston scorers were Martin Schaefer with a 43, Clint Bohannon with a 44, Ed Pike at 47 and Wayne Guthrie at 54.
