PORTAGEVILLE - George J. Champion, 68, died Feb. 19, 2002, at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.
Born Oct. 12, 1933, in Oxford, Miss., son of Eavie Smith Champion Reid of Portageville and the late Norman J. Champion, he was a veteran of U.S. Air Force Military Police.
On May 5, 1955, in Hernando, Miss., he married Irene M. King who survives of the home.
Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include: one son and daughter-in-law, George J. and Carol Champion Jr. of Prattville, Ala.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Agnes and Jerry Hicks and Jacqueline and Steve Dooley of Portageville and Margaret and Richard Goodman of Goshen, Ala.; one sister, Geneva DeRousse of Hayward; and 11 grandchildren.
Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at DeLisle Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Kent Jones, officiating.
The New Madrid American Legion Post 595 Color Guard will conduct full military rites at the Portageville Cemetery.
