SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. T.M. Solomon, for more than 12 years residents of Sikeston, observed their 53rd wedding anniversary on the 20th.
KENNETT - The Parthenon Construction Company was the low bidder on a 13-mile sewer line to be built in Kennett. The bid was $278,406.01. At the same time the lower bidder for the construction of a new lagoon in Kennett, with a bid of $159,837.46 was Austin Brothers of Mountain Grove, Ala.
NEW MADRID - A public hearing to establish an enterprise zone was set during the Monday evening meeting of the City Council. The council approved a proposal establishing part of New Madrid, Lilbourn, North Lilbourn and Marston as enterprise zones. The designation, if approved at the local and state levels, would allow businesses locating in the areas to receive tax advantages.
SIKESTON - Members of the Sikeston varsity basketball team celebrated their championship victory at the 12th Annual Superman Classic Saturday. The team consisted of: Steven Geralds, Matt Hawkins, Marshawn West, Henly Montgomery, Garrett Taylor, Allen Hatchett, James Wilson, Brian Coleman, Rome Pelczynski, Mike Strong, Jerry Mitchell and James Harris.

NEW MADRID - A town meeting to discuss the MO-GRO II Retail Market and Tourism Study prepared for the city of New Madrid will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in the City Council Room. The meeting will cover plans for downtown renovation, existing retail market analysis and specific recommendations as they relate to business and tourism.
