Tennis team posts big win over Jackson

JACKSON - The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs tennis team posted a big 5-4 victory against Jackson on Tuesday.

Sikeston won two of the three doubles matches to pull out the win, improving to 3-1 on the season.

"The girls played phenomenal today," said Sikeston head coach Lynne DeWitt. "They really went out there and took care of business. They played really hard and never gave up. I'm extremely proud of their efforts and their performances."

In singles, No. 1 Elizabeth Killion defeated Katie Domian 8-1; No. 2 Lindsay Leible beat Kelly Mitchell 8-6; No. 3 Charlie Richey lost to Kari Miinch 6-8; No. 4 Jeri Nichols lost to Kim Anderson 3-8; No. 5 Chelsea Gilliland beat Carrie Golden 8-6; and No. 6 Jamie Davidson lost to Kali Niswonger 1-8.

In doubles, Killion/Leible beat Domian/Mitchell 8-4; Richey/Nichols lost to Miinch/Anderson 2-8; and Gilliland/Davidson beat Golden/Niswonger 8-6.

Sikeston lost the junior varsity match 3-4.

Sikeston's junior varsity winners were Hallie Lambert, Brittney Bohannon and the doubles team of Jessica Colwick and Bohannon.

Sikeston will host Malden on Thursday at 4 p.m.
