SIKESTON - A stepfather is under investigation for child abuse after authorities reported an 11-year-old girl with bruises to her face.

Morris Daniel Falkoff, 32, is to be arraigned today on two counts of first degree child abuse. Bond was set at $15,000 and he was taken to the Scott County Jail.

According to Sikeston Director of Public Safety Drew Juden, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety's school resource officer responded to the Fifth Grade Center on a report of child abuse. The 11-year-old girl was taken into protective custody for medical treatment of her injuries. She was then taken to the SEMO Network Against Sexual Violence to be interviewed and receive counseling.

DPS detectives interviewed the child's mother and stepfather. The stepfather admitted to the assault and investigation is continuing into several other incidents which are classified as abuse under Missouri law, Juden said.
