SpeakOut 9/10

Call 471-6636

I just wanted to SpeakOut about that dangerous eyesore on the corner of Ruth and Olive. It's still there. Also, a lot on the corner of Scott and West Gladys streets needs to be mowed. A little boy got a bunch of sand burrs in his pants, socks and tennis shoes and my husband pulled them off. We've called the code enforcers to report that. Then we looked and you can barely see the fire hydrant on the street corner. The city came along and mashed weeds around the fire hydrant and they're drying up now. I guess they sprayed them with something. The dead tree and the rest of the corner look awful. Also, the weeds and grass are growing in the cracks in the street. Does anyone out there care about Sikeston?

This is a resident on North Ingram. I was wondering why we didn't get new asphalt street this year. I know they said in the paper a few weeks ago that it wasn't in the budget. But yet they still concreting new streets like the one across from the rodeo grounds. There won't be a house built there for years. What's that all about? Why didn't they continue to asphalt North Ingram. I just read where they're going to start asphalting the other part by the concrete plant. Could I ask when this will be done? The potholes are very bad.

Everyone needs to have their flags out by Sept. 11, in their yards, flagpoles and flying from their cars and trucks. I think it would be nice if everyone lit a candle on their front porch between 7 and 8:30 p.m. We could also help neighbors do that who are handicapped or elderly so everyone has a candle lit that night in Sikeston.

Did you go to Rhodes, or Fas Gas, Hucks or Jasper's drive-through today to get a soda? If you did, then you should have gone on to the Standard Democrat and given them $1 for the memorial. That money is going to help our fire department. I paid mine. When I asked how many had paid, I was very disappointed. Every single business in Sikeston should have paid $1 - just $1. All the restaurants, banks, churches, all the people, just one simple little dollar - that's not very much. The names are going to be published in Wednedsay's paper so you need to hurry up and get down there. It's for a good cause for the Sikeston Fire Department.

When is it proper to lower the American flag to honor a happening, such as the upcoming Sept. 11? If proper, will Sikeston be lowering the flags around the town for that day?

American flags on city properties in Sikeston will be flown at half-staff on that day. A Resolution of Commemoration of the Attacks of Sept. 11 encourages residents of the City of Sikeston to visit the Memorial Wall and to participate in the services that are being held on Sept. 11 at the Sikeston Field House. The Sikeston Post Office will also fly the flag at half-staff on Sept. 11. Postal employees will gather that morning for a moment of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks.

I'm calling about all these car places listed in the Standard Democrat that advertise "Bankruptcy, bad credit, doesn't matter. We will get you a loan." I think that is false advertising because I had bad credit about seven years ago and the two places here in Sikeston hadn't been able to get credit for me. I think it's bad advertising just to get people in there.

You may want to contact the dealership yourself and ask how their program works.

It's hard for Bush to undo in one term of office what's been done for years. I will follow that President into any war. I believe he's God's man and I believe in what he is doing.
