Two men are shot in Charleston

CHARLESTON - Three persons are in custody in connection with the shooting of two Charleston men Wednesday night at two different locations.

According to reports, the Charleston Department of Public Safety received a call at approximately 10:19 p.m. concerning shots being fired in the 400 block of Cypress.

Officers found the first victim, Shon Watson, 23, in the 500 block of South Locust. He was shot numerous times.

The second victim, Derek Whitney, 25, was discovered in the 300 block of South Locust. He had been shot once in the lower right leg.

Both men were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The Charleston DPS and Mississippi County Sheriff's Department secured the crime scene and began an intensive investigation. Within hours, three arrests were made in conjunction with the assault. Two weapons were recovered as well.

The names of these suspects are being held pending the issuance of warrants. No further information was available at press time.
