MATTHEWS -- Violet R. Wallace, 87, formerly of East Prairie, died at 7:50 a.m. Dec. 30, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born Jan. 25, 1917, in Hickman, Ky., daughter of the late James and Janie Tinsley Johnson, she had lived in East Prairie most of her life and was employed with the Anniston School and Charleston R-1 Schools as a cook until her retirement. She was also a member of the Anniston Christian Church.
On May 19, 1933, she married Miles A. Wallace who preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1991.
Survivors include: four sons and four daughters-in-law, David and Nadine Wallace of Sikeston, Milus Gary and Wanda Wallace of Dorena, and Jack and Jackie Wallace and Anthony and Lavonda Wallace of East Prairie; three daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Bill Greenwood and Glenda and Barry Horton of East Prairie and Geneva and Donald Ray Hastings of Sikeston; 13 grandchildren and their spouses, Cindy and Rick Carroll, Tammi Wilkerson, Don Hastings, Wallace and Connie Hastings, Starla Wallace, Mike Street, Lisa and Aaron Wood, Vickie and Tom Smith, Monica and Lindsay Goodin, Brent and Christy Horton, Aaron Wallace, Chad and Mindy Wallace and Corey Wallace; and 22 great-grandchildren, Mandy Wilkerson, Jessie Wilkerson, Trey Hastings, Tori Hastings, Wally Hastings, Kyle Branum, Tommy Branum, Christian Stallings, Luke Becker, Courtney Street, Jordan Wood, Jessica Smith, Scarlett Goodin, Gretta Goodin, Isabella Goodin, Dearmont Goodin, Maggie Horton, River Horton, Katie Wallace, Sam Wallace, Cameron Martin and Colton Wallace.
One granddaughter, Kristy Hastings Becker; one grandson, Shane Street; five brothers; and three sisters also preceded her in death.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston with Martin Lucas of East Prairie officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Don Hastings, Wallace Hastings, Brent Horton, Aaron Wallace, Chad Wallace, Rick Carroll and Lindsay Goodin.
