Speakout 3/4

I have seen Sikeston grow and slow down at the Sikeston Airport. Since World War II they've just played around with it. If you people are going to have a good airport (you're already crowded with the rodeo and planning and zoning committee and Jiggs Moore and the city; they moved all the playground things in there and the ball park and stuff like that). You shouldn't put ball parks and stuff like that where you're going to have an airport. It needs wide open spaces with up to date hangars. You need to look at the hangars and stuff at Kennett and Cape Girardeau airports. The man who runs the First National Bank had a nice idea to just buy some land on the edge of the city and build a new airport. The old one could keep things going until a new one was built. We have a governor in there now who would help get some money on things like this.

I read in the Feb. 20 paper about cardiac rehab and I'm a patient of a heart doctor in Cape and didn't want to travel to Cape every day for my cardiac rehab. I found a program at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti and it is wonderful. I notice you mentioned Dexter, Kennett, Cape and Perryville, but you didn't mention the Hayti hospital. They have a wonderful program there and I want everybody to know.

With the death of Hunter Thompson, Michael Jensen now labors on as our nation's lone gonzo journalist.

I agree with the caller in the Feb. 21 paper who said that pro-lifers have been suffered by George Bush. I have always voted Democrat but I voted Republican this time because I'm tired of homosexuals and abortion running the country. Now it seems that all the Republicans have forgotten about what they promised.

Grant City used to be a nice place but when you pass by there now, it just makes you sick. I used to live there. People need to clean up their yards. Some places look nice and others just look like trash. Maybe if you put this in SpeakOut, someone will notice it and clean up their yard. I don't know how they could not notice it.

I am in need of a decent refrigerator. If anyone has one to give away, please call me at 667-5549.

Why do some businesses sell sales tax on newspapers they sell over the counter and the news stands don't charge sales tax? Who actually charges sales tax on the papers?

A business that purchases items for resale is required by law to charge sales tax. That could add up to a whole bunch over a period of time.

Mike, I have to say with all due respect that I almost never agree with your editorials, but I truly appreciated your column today about the untimely death of Hunter Thompson. He will be missed by people of all ideologies and walks of life. Thanks again.
