DEXTER - Marshall Lee Vowels, 74, died May 29, 2003, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born Oct. 8, 1928, in Wyatt, son of the late Albert and Gladys Miller Vowels, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dexter. He owned and operated Vowels Tire and Appliance in Dexter. A former board member for Dexter Memorial Hospital, he was active in the Dexter Chamber of Commerce and served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
On Dec. 3, 1950, at Fornfelt, he married Mary Faith Estes who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son, Michael Vowels of Dexter; one daughter, Marsha Edwards of Cape Girardeau; one brother, George Vowels of Butler; one sister, Judy Lunceford of Brawley, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
One sister, Mary Ellen Vowels, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Dexter with the Rev. Fred Leist officiating.
Burial will follow at a later date in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
