SIKESTON - Cpl. Bynum Puckett, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Puckett, has informed his parents that he is confined in a hospital at Fairbanks, Alaska, because of illness, but not serious.

SIKESTON - The Scott County Chapter of the American Red Cross is hosting an honorary blood drive for Sikeston Department of Public Safety Capt. Joe Sebourn from 1:30-6:30 p.m. March 8 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sikeston. Sebourn has been diagnosed with IGA nephropath, a rare blood disease that affects the kidneys. He is awaiting a kidney transplant. Donors will be served Mazzio's Pizza and Dairy Queen.

SIKESTON - Worries about safety have prompted the Sikeston City Council to oppose proposed increases in train speeds through the city. Burlington Northern Railroad has requested an increase in train speeds through Sikeston from the present 20 mph to 55 mph. Also the railroad company proposes to close the William Street crossing and make other crossing improvements in the community.
