Burned line puts city in dark

Tuesday, June 10, 2003

SIKESTON - The city of Sikeston was in the dark for a brief period today and at press time the Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities was still trying to determine the cause of the power outage which occurred just before 9 a.m.

According to Wayne McSpadden of Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities, crew members of the BMU located a burned wire. He said the lines traveling from New Madrid have three wires and workers found one had burned in two. McSpadden said the city was energized by a backup system and workers are trying to determine the original cause of the problem.
