Wednesday, September 17, 2003

CONRAN - Sydney Beth Pikey, 7, died Sept. 15, 2003, at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

The beloved daughter of John and Stacy Pikey of Conran was born May 3, 1996, in Cape Girardeau. Her brother, Drew Pikey; her grandparents, Sam Pikey of Conran and Linda and Steve Rogers of New Madrid; her great-grandparents, Margie and Douglas Riddick of Portageville and Doris "Tootsie" Pikey of Conran, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, survive Sydney.

"She She" Sheila Riddick Pikey, her grandmother, to whom she was devoted and has fervently missed since her death on Jan. 20, 2003, and her great-grandparents, Robert L. and Ione Cook and Charles Pikey, preceded her in death.

An active member, Sydney was baptized in the United Methodist Church of Portageville. There she attended Sunday school and vacation Bible school. She was a former Daisy, Patti Simmons School of Dance participant, a Sikeston gymnast and honor roll student at New Madrid Elementary School, where she was also the recipient of the Citizenship of the Year Award.

Sydney's loss will be mourned by so many whose hearts she touched in her all too brief stay on this Earth. Her love of life and of other children will be realized by the precious gift of her organs to others who were in need.

Visitation begins at 6 p.m. today at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Portageville with Bill Baldwin and the Rev. Sharon Howard officiating.

Pallbearers will be: Pap Pikey, Brent Pikey, Ronnie Adams, Jonathan Cribbs, Shawn Young and Chance Hunter.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Drew Pikey, Gage Pikey, Brady Pikey, Abbie Pikey, B.J. Pikey, Sarah Pikey, J.B. Cannon, Judd Cannon, Deede Cannon, Jessica Cowan, Jay Holiman and Cleve Holiman.

Her family and friends will only survive her loss in the consolation that Sydney Beth's passing is another link in the Golden Chain that should draw us toward heaven, where her beautiful spirit dwells.

The family requests memorials be made to: Shelia "She She" Riddick Pikey Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Marsha Holiman, 450 Main St., New Madrid, MO 63869; or a charity of the donor's choice.
