SIKESTON - Douglas Taylor will leave Wednesday night for Jefferson Barracks and from there go to Farragut, Idaho, for boot training in the United States Navy.

BRYAN, Texas - Potlach Forests of Sikeston defeated Corpus Christi 5-2 Wednesday night i the first game of the Southwest Connie Mack Regional Tournament.

SIKESTON - A Sikeston boy, David Gilmore, was the winner of the junior division of the Kiwanis-sponsored talent show conducted in Charleston Friday night. Senior category winner was Patti Ward of Bernie.

MATTHEWS - Construction of the new Asgrow Seed Co. plant near Matthews is scheduled to be completed in mid-September, according to Tim Loefler, branch manager.

SIKESTON - The theme of the 1993 Cotton Carnival will be "Freedom."

EAST PRAIRIE - A Highway 60 project update was presented to the Mississippi County Industrial Development Authority Monday by Blair Moran, a member of the committee pushing for a four-lane highway from Sikeston to Willow Springs. Stressing "good roads does nothing but help economic development," Moran commended the IDA for "its efforts in attracting industry into the county to provide jobs and improve the quality of life."

SIKESTON - The Department of Public Safety reports that several intersections in Sikeston will be closed from approximately 6 p.m. until midnight during the week of rodeo (Aug. 11-14). The intersections that will be closed are Athens and North Ingram, Troy and North Ingram and Campanella and North Ingram.
