CHARLESTON - A two-day murder trial ended Thursday in Mississippi County with a man found guilty of murder.
A jury convicted Wilekis Dorsey of Sikeston for first degree murder and ramed criminal action in connection with the death of Don Prude on May 30, 2000, in Haywood City. The case was heard in Mississippi County on a change of venue from Scott County.
Dorsey was one of five persons arrested after a 17-month investigation by the Scott County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol into Prude's murder. Prude of Blythville, Ark., was shot numerous times in his car on Hickory Street in Haywood City.
Sentencing for Dorsey is set for Sept. 17, 2003, before Judge Lynn Brown.
In a related trial heard in New Madrid County, another defendant in the case was found not guilty.
Tyrone Sheron was found not guilty of first degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of Prude during a sale of a controlled substance. The trial began July 10 and continued on July 11 with Scott County Prosecutor Paul Boyd trying the case. The jury was out approximately 27 minutes before returning the not-guilty verdict.
