SIKESTON - J.W. Baker of Sikeston has been appointed by Federal Judge George H. Moore of the eastern district of Missouri as one of three appraisers of a large acreage of land in the Bird's Point New Madrid floodway. C.L. Whitener of Fredericktown and Harris D. Rodgers of Benton were also appointed as appraisers.

SIKESTON - New officers for the Sikeston Chamber of Commerce are: Joel Montgomery, president; Clem Beal, first vice president; Ralph Boyer, second vice president; and Charles Simpson, treasurer.

SIKESTON - Businesses and individuals throughout the community are joining the new Sikeston Industrial Club. Lee Stallings recently presented Sikeston attorney Dan Norton with a plaque for his participation in the club. Mike Jensen received a plaque from Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce Director Pat Hawkins designating The Democrat Advertiser's participation in the club. Jensen, who is a member of the Chamber board, also presented a plaque to Dean McClain, designating KMPL's membership in the club.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston City Council Wednesday voted 4-0 to pursue a Community Development Block Grant that would allow for housing improvements along Olive Street.

SIKESTON - Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from throughout Southeast Missouri will showcase their skills and activities March 20 during the annual Scout-o-Rama. The all-day show at the Kingsway Plaza Mall in Sikeston will feature Scouts from the Cherokee District of the Southeast Missouri Boy Scout Council.
