SIKESTON - March "entered like a lamb," but did not maintain that appearance for long. For the second day the temperature dropped and the third was only 21 degrees while a low reading of 1 degree was reported.

SIKESTON - Janet Leigh Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones, celebrated her second birthday with a party Monday at the home of her parents. Little guests were: Maria Jo Robinson, Leasa Howard Patty, Pam Curran, Stevie Aldrich, Eddie and Marilyn Lott, Jeffrey Lynn Miller, Libby Whitworth and Patty and Timmy Stamp.

SIKESTON - A recent increase in confidence schemes, which often target senior citizens as victims, has prompted the Sikeston Department of Public Safety to issue some suggestions for protection. A brochure on senior security is available through DPS.

SIKESTON - Sikeston's Roy Mitchell slipped around the Cape Central defense and skied up for an attempted slam dunk to begin the second quarter. However, he missed the dunk and was called for a technical foul. Mitchell led the team with 19 points as the Bulldogs lost the district title game to Cape Central Friday night.

SIKESTON - Exhibitors began setting up displays for the Sikeston Home and Garden Show at the Kingsway Mall Thursday. The show, which starts today, will continue through Sunday.

CHARLESTON - Emphasizing the County Commission had no prior knowledge of overtime in the sheriff's department, Presiding Commissioner Fred DeField reported Thursday that a negotiated agreement had been reached regarding compensation to deputies and jailers.
