SIKESTON - C.D. Matthews III has been named as chairman of the war savings committee of Sikeston by Mayor G.W.H. Presnell. He was named to head the committee last week.


SIKESTON - George Hensley Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hensley of Route Three, has been promoted from private first class to corporal.

SIKESTON - Robert M. Edwards, superintendent of Scott County R-4 Schools, announced that the public schools of the district will begin Aug. 30.

SIKESTON - Three months into a new position, Dale Ludwig finds himself at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo to visit the Bootheel for the first time as executive director for the Missouri Soybean Association. He is using the publicity from the event to spread the word about alternative uses of soybeans. Joined by John McClellan, a summer intern from the University of Missouri, College of Agriculture, Ludwig brought the University of Missouri's SoyDiesel powered truck to the rodeo.
