SIKESTON - The Franklin County Oil Company, distributors of Skelly products, have announced the opening of a service station and bulk plant on Highway 60 East. Fred Jones and D.M. Hicks will be managers.

SIKESTON - Keith Collins, music supervisor for Sikeston Public Schools for the past several years, was inducted into the Marine Corps at Jefferson Barracks last Thursday.

SIKESTON - Receiving appointment as an Honorary Arkansas Cotton Picker in his office was Harry E. Dudley.

POPLAR BLUFF - The Sikeston All-Stars advanced to the finals in the Poplar Bluff Invitational Tournament when they defeated Qulin by a score of 3-0.

SIKESTON - Excitement and tension are mounting for Lora Carlisle, a 16-year-old Sikeston High school student who is scheduled to leave in just a few days for a year in Belgium. She is participating in the Rotary Club's foreign exchange student program.

SIKESTON - Jeanne Aufdenberg, 20, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Aufdenberg of Matthews, was chosen as Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Queen.

SIKESTON - Pens and chute chairman George Hawthorne has been keeping busy during the 41st Annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo. Of his many duties, he must be sure that cowboys are roping and riding the correct livestock.

SIKESTON - Lana Taylor, vice president of the Sikeston Community Teachers Association, attended the Missouri State Teachers Association's annual leadership conference Aug. 4-6 at MSTA's Bunker Hill Ranch Resort near Mountain View.
