SIKESTON - For the past seven years the Business/Technology Job Expo has brought together high school students and individuals interested in learning more about the jobs in the area and businesses wanting to let the community know they're out there. It's a win-win situation, said Missy Marshall, executive director of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce.
"The Expo allows area businesses to display their wares and recruit new employees," she said. "We also have area schools attend trying to recruit new students. The fact that the schools send their students every year and that the public comes out to see what's new is what has made it so successful."
Sponsored by the SACC and Sikeston Public Schools, this year's free event is set for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 1 at the Sikeston High School Field House. Set up will be from 6:30-8:30 a.m.
The cost for the 10 X 10-foot booths are $150 for one booth for Chamber members, $200 for non-members and no cost for corporate sponsors; $200 for two booths, $250 for non-members and free for corporate sponsors; and $250 for three booths, $300 for non-members and $200 for corporate sponsors. Each vendor will receive one table and two chairs.
"We want any business which has not been contacted by us that wants to participate to please call us," said Marshall.
To register, send in the company's name, contact person and phone number, address, number of booths needed, amount of money enclosed or a request to be billed and whether or not the business wishes to be a corporate sponsor.
Also include if electricity and/or a phone jack will be needed. There will be an additional cost for phone lines. The address is Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce, 1 Industrial Drive, Sikeston, Mo., 63801.
Registration deadline is Feb. 22. Booth spaces will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Booth confirmation will be mailed to those participating.
Last year the event brought in 37 exhibitors and about 2,000 visitors.
"Many businesses such as Firstar Bank and Noranda Aluminum will have demonstrations of services and we want our area businesses to demonstrate their products and services," said Marshall. "There will also be Navy recruiters at the Expo for those interested. We invite everyone to come see what's going on in our area and maybe win a door prize."
