BENTON - A Sikeston man was arrested this week for failure to register as a convicted sexual offender.
According to Scott County Sheriff Bill Ferrell, an investigation determined that Steven G. Streisel, 39, was convicted of a qualifying sexual offense in another Missouri county. The investigation showed that Streisel had been a resident of Scott County since November 2001.
Streisel was arrested Wednesday night and posted a $1,500 bond.
Ferrell explained state law requires persons convicted of certain sexual offenses to register with the chief law enforcement official of the county in which the person resides within ten days of coming into the county.
According to Sgt. Jerry Bledsoe, officers of the court make the offenders aware of the registration requirement after they've been convicted or enter a plea of guilty to a qualifying offense.
Ferrell stressed failure to register cases will be investigated and submitted to the Scott County Prosecuting Attorney.
